The Gourds lead singer Kev Russell (jean jacket) kicks it with the midnight riders after
playing a set at the Lowbagger Party in Missoula on Monday.

Lowbagger.org Party Jams With Gourds Appearance
By Josh Mahan

Not every news site treats its local readers to a Cajun dinner with rock stars. But then again Lowbagger.org blurs the line between website and rock band itself.

Following the age old adage that a good party is one that your people enjoy, Lowbagger commissioned a Cajun spread, Missoula beer, and rock stars The Gourds in the quest of an old-fashioned throw down.

Consider it a community service.

Hundreds of strands of energy collided within the mango walls of the Stensrud Building on Monday, swirling into a visceral mood of laughter and undeniable community. The chaotic cloud of counter-culture had a certain vibrancy that made an attendant feel like something was happening in the now. Like that particular juncture of time-and-space was unique.

The theory that there is a little Lowbagger in everyone held true, as the respectable and downright disreputable rubbed elbows finding common ground in the live music, etouffee, and conversation.

The Gourds mixed seamlessly with the Missoula crowd. Rock stars can be obvious at times. Torn jeans, bohemian attitudes, and non-conformist sneers of malcontent stand out in most cities. But not in Missoula.

The Gourds rocked Monday night away with Zoo Town’s hippest, hob-knobbing
with the mainstays and bellying around the keg, demonstrating without a doubt their down-to-earth roots.

Lead singer Kev Russell even took to the microphone treating the midnight riders
at the Lowbagger Party to a six-song performance, the super-secret triple-encore to
The Gourds two-day show in the Garden City.

Russell nailed the performance and captivated the audience.

Thank-you Kev!

Lowbagger would also like to thank the Dinosaur Café and The Kettle House for their Lowbagger food rates, and a big thank you to the Stensrud Building for donating the space, a great place to host concerts and gatherings. Thanks are also owed to Gruver for spear-heading the food efforts, and to J.R. for spreading the word and getting his friends to come down.

But thanks especially to Missoula’s Lowbaggers. Keep doing what you’re doing.
We’re happy to feed you anytime.
